Adventure Catechism Curriculum

Chapter 01 - God Comes to Meet Us

God reveals Himself to us. God created everything, visible and invisible. God is eternal. Creation is an expression of God’s goodness. Human beings are made in God’s image and likeness. We can know and love our Creator. We are made to be children of God.

Chapter 01 - God Made Everything

God made the whole world and everything in it. God is eternal. God is all-powerful. God is all-good. God is everywhere.

Chapter 01 - God, our Creator and Father

God is the Creator of all things, "visible and invisible." God is eternal. Man is made in God's image and likeness. God reveals Himself to us through creation, the Bible, the Catholic Church, and especially through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Chapter 01 - Man's desire for God

Chapter 1 Preview: • Only God can fulfill our deepest desires. • God made all things, including you. • Every person is created with a desire for God. • We must have a personal relationship with God.

Chapter 02 - God is our Father

God made you. God desires a loving relationship with you. God is our Father. God made you in His image. God gave you a soul.

Chapter 02 - Revelation

Chapter 2 Preview: • God is eternal. • We can learn some things about God from His creation. • God has revealed Himself to us. • God is revealed through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. • The Holy Spirit inspired the authors of the Bible. • Jesus Christ is the perfect revelation of God.

Chapter 02 - The Beauty of God's Creation

Chapter 2 Preview All of God's creation is good. Creation was made for man and woman. We have been made for a loving relationship with God. We can learn about God from His creation. We must respect and appreciate the gift of creation.

Chapter 02 - The Most Holy Trinity

The Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. There is one God. There are three divine Persons in one God – this is the Holy Trinity. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all divine Persons, of the one divine nature.

Chapter 03 - People walked away from God

God created Adam and Eve, the first two humans. Adam and Eve lived in a beautiful garden called Eden. The devil tempted Adam and Eve to disobey God's command. Original Sin affects all of us. God promised a Savior.

Chapter 02 Preview: The Bible is the written Word of God. The human authors of the Bible received the gift of Inspiration from the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament recounts the story of creation and God's relationship with the people of Israel. The New Testament begins with the Gospels and tells of the early Catholic Church.

The Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. There is only one true God. There are three divine Persons in one God. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all divine Persons, of the one divine nature. Jesus Christ is the perfect revelation of God.

Chapter 05 - God Becomes Man

Through sin, Adam and Eve separated humanity from God and brought death into the world. God immediately promised a Savior. At the Annunciation, the Son of God became Man in the womb of the Virgin Mary. The Son of God became human to save us from sin and restore our relationship with God.

Chapter 08 - Jesus Rose from the Dead

On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus rose on Easter Sunday.

Chapter 09 - The Church

Forty days after His Resurrection, Jesus ascended to Heaven. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to the apostles. Jesus is the Head of the Church.

Chapter 10 - Mary is our Mother

Jesus gave Mary to us, to be our mother. Mary was preserved from Original Sin through her Immaculate Conception. Mary loves us and prays for us and helps us follow Jesus.

Chapter 11 - The Sacraments

Jesus gave seven sacraments to the Church. The sacraments give us grace. Sanctifying grace is God's life within us.

Chapter 12 - Baptism

A person is baptized with water in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Baptism makes us members of the Church and children of God. Baptism frees us from sin and unites us with Christ.

Chapter 13 - The Eucharist

The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ, under the appearance of bread and wine. Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist. We receive the Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion.

Chapter 14 - The Mass

We celebrate the Holy Eucharist at Mass. The Liturgy of the Word is focused on the Bible. The Liturgy of the Eucharist is focused on the Eucharist.

Chapter 15 - Receiving the Holy Eucharist

We must be prepared to receive the Holy Eucharist. If a person has committed a serious sin, he must go to Confession before receiving Holy Communion. We fast for one hour before receiving Holy Communion.

Chapter 16 - Reconciliation

Jesus gave the apostles the power to forgive sins in His Name. Sins we commit after Baptism are forgiven in Reconciliation. Mortal sins are deadly to our souls.
